About the WordPress Theme Detector

Powering over 43% of all websites across the global internet, WordPress is the world's most dominant Content Management System (CMS). When browsing the web, designers, digital agencies, and webmasters frequently stumble across beautifully designed websites and wonder: "What theme is this website using? Which page builder or SEO plugin created that layout?"

The VibeTool WordPress Theme Detector answers that question in seconds. By executing deep document parsing of the target website's HTML, stylesheet linkages, and script directories, our scanner extracts the active theme name, author, version, parent/child hierarchy, and reveals installed plugins.

How Does WordPress Theme Detection Work?

Standard WordPress installations adhere to consistent file hierarchies defined by the core WordPress repository architecture:

  • Themes Directory (/wp-content/themes/): Every active WordPress theme loads a central stylesheet named style.css containing standardized comment headers specifying the theme name, author credentials, version numbers, and parent theme tags.
  • Plugins Directory (/wp-content/plugins/): Installed plugins enqueue scripts, CSS stylesheets, and images containing their unique plugin slug in asset URLs (e.g. /plugins/elementor/ or /plugins/woocommerce/).
  • Generator Meta Tags: Many WordPress sites publish an HTML <meta name="generator" content="WordPress X.X"> tag identifying the CMS release.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why can't the tool detect the theme on certain websites?

There are three primary reasons: (1) The website is not running on WordPress (it might use Shopify, Webflow, Next.js, or Laravel); (2) The site uses security plugins or a headless WordPress architecture that completely masks core wp-content paths; (3) The theme is custom-coded from scratch without public template headers.

What is a WordPress Child Theme?

A Child Theme inherits all the styling and functionality of its parent theme (such as Astra or Divi) while allowing developers to make custom CSS and PHP code modifications that are not erased when the parent theme receives an update.

Can this tool detect all 100% of installed plugins?

Our tool detects all frontend-facing plugins that load stylesheets, JavaScript libraries, or HTML comments on the inspected page. Backend-only utility plugins (like database backup tools or admin authentication extensions) that do not render public frontend assets cannot be scanned without direct server access.
